Pui Ying Mak Yee

Pui Ying Mak Yee, age 86, recently passed away on September 9, 2026 after a brief illness. She was born in Guangdong, China in 1940, the youngest of five children. Pui Ying married Henry Yee in 1961, and immigrated to Canada in 1962 to start their new lives together. Soon after they moved to New York City in 1964, where they initially lived in Chinatown before settling in Elmhurst/Queens in 1974. She was a talented seamstress, and worked in the Garment District & Chinatown for several decades (moving up the ranks to sample maker & pattern maker), before retiring in 2002. In their retirement, she and Henry enjoyed travelling together and going on cruises to Europe and Asia. Pui Ying also liked watching TV game shows, like The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and was a big fan of NBA basketball - she was thrilled that the Knicks finally won the championship this summer.

Pui Ying was predeceased by her husband, Henry, and her siblings (two brothers and two sisters). She is survived by her daughter, Frances, as well as many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces/-nephews in the US, Canada and China.
