Harry K. Wong, 84, of Elmhurst, New York. Formally of Norwalk, Ct.
Passed away peacefully at his home in Elmhurst, NY. Born in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China, Harry emigrated to Canada at age 14 and later moved to the United States. With little formal education, he began working as a busboy and waiter, eventually becoming a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated several restaurants and, with his wife Mary Wong, opened Norbert’s Coin-Op in Norwalk, Connecticut, running the business together for more than 30 years and making it a beloved part of the community. Harry was also skilled in woodworking, building furniture, constructing the garage at his home, and had a keen eye for investing.
On September 3, 1962, Harry married Mary Wong, his devoted partner in life and business. Above all, he treasured time with family, loved cooking for relatives, caring for his grandchildren, and enjoying peaceful days fishing. He was also a long-time member of the Gee How Oak Tin Association in New York, reflecting his deep commitment to the Chinese-American community.
Harry was predeceased by his wife, Mary Wong; his brothers, Wayne Chan and Curtis Chin; and his sisters, Suey Jun Lee and Jean Young. He is survived by his sons, Norbert Wong (Regina) of East Sandwich, Massachusetts, and Kyle Wong (Antonia) of Elmhurst, New York; grandchildren Tyler, Brittany, and Kai Wong; his brother Steven Chin of Burke, Virginia; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many dear family friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who lovingly cared for Harry, especially his devoted son, Kyle.
Harry will be remembered for his courage, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue through generations.
